Teaching voice technique for Classical, Musical Theatre, Pop, Rock, Metal, Jazz, Gospel, and Country singing.

Training speakers to use their voices more fully and satisfactorily.

Teaching Anthony Braxton’s language music system to singers and instrumentalists.

Helping transgender and gender non-conforming people assimilate and develop their voices..

Helping people who stutter find fluency and ease in speaking and singing.

Coaching vocal artistry–personal connection to the lyrics–across genres.

Serious, motivated beginners through established professionals welcomed.

Are you an experienced singer who is frustrated by issues that haven’t been resolved with other teachers?

Are you a Classical singer wanting to learn Musical Theatre, Pop, or Rock singing? I have walked many miles in your shoes, know your world very well, and would LOVE to bring you safely over to “The Dark Side” 😉

Are you a non-Classical singer wanting to learn how to sing Classical music or Legit Musical Theatre but feel intimidated by it?

Are you an experienced singer–Classical or non–who has hit a plateau and is looking for a change in approach to your singing?

Are you brand new to singing and are looking for a non-threatening, fun environment to explore what your voice can do and develop your range, skill, beauty, and stamina?

Are you an actor or dancer interested in adding singing to your skill set, but feel insecure about it?

Are you a Classical singer who just doesn’t get Charles Ives, or some other 20th or 21st Century composer, but is obligated to learn a set for school or a recital? I can help you get inside of these songs at a personal level and have a great time performing their music.

Would you like to learn a system of Jazz improvisation developed by one of the world’s leading avant-Jazz composers? I perform and record with Anthony Braxton, and love to share his system of improvisation with others. It is a liberating and transformative practice regardless of one’s level of technical proficiency. It is uniquely challenging and accessible for everyone from the least experienced, insecure budding musician, to the most seasoned professional. As one of my students put it, “It’s like, really primal but really advanced all at the same time.” She nailed it.

Do you speak with a stutter, or are you the parent of a child who speaks with a stutter, and are considering voice lessons as alternative or adjunct treatment? You will find a home in my studio. My stutter was influential in bringing me to a life of song.

Are you looking to find your authentic voice–singer or not–before, during, or after gender reassignment?

Would you like to work with a New York City voice teacher but don’t live in the area?

On any given day in the studio I am training clients on any of the above, in person and online, as well as:

Coaching arias, operatic roles, art song, oratorio, chamber work ranging from the classical music canon to the most modern, experimental works
Coaching music from the Great American Songbook
Coaching French, German, and Italian diction
Preparing clients for on-camera and theatre auditions and self submissions — singing and non-singing
Helping clients learn to read music and sight-sing
Helping develop classical, musical theatre and pop repertoire books.
Training the voice and personal connection to the lyrics for Gospel singing
Training the voice and personal connection to the lyrics for Country singing

Drawing on over 25 years of international experience as a singer and teacher across multiple genres, I will help you not just speak or sing more proficiently, but understand what you are doing, and use inventive ways to increase your vocal and artistic versatility. I have trained singers across genres performing internationally, as well as on Broadway, off Broadway, and on television and film and been accepted to major music schools, but I also welcome avocational and beginning students. I am also mindful of the ways in which voice lessons can be a powerfully transformative activity for professional and amateur alike. As a result, lessons are geared towards each clients’ needs and goals as both artist and person.
