UnMuted: Reclaiming Your Authentic Expression Through Music and Mindset
“UnMuted: Reclaiming Your Authentic Expression Through Music and Mindset”is an immersive voice and communication intensive in New York’s Catskills.
UnMuted is beneficial and accessible to anyone 21 years or older who is interested in deeply exploring and transforming their relationship with their voice as a method of communication. No prior musical or acting experience is needed in order to participate fully. Click here to learn more about who can benefit from this workshop.
CURRICULUM – Using Meisner based acting exercises, Anthony Braxton’s improvisational Ghost Trance Music, inspiration from Kristin Linklater’s “Finding Shakespeare’s Voice,” and specially selected breath and vocal exercises, UnMuted is a three day intensive wherein different aspects of vocal and non-vocal communication are targeted by each activity:
Social conditioning (noticing and repatterning maladaptive beliefs and behaviors with regard to communicating one’s thoughts and feelings)
Maintaining connection to oneself while remaining present and responsive to another
The stability and flexibility of the vocal instrument (to maintain strength and responsiveness when in potentially intimidating, threatening or emotional circumstances) and
Learning to identify, trust, and act on one’s healthy instincts.
SIZE – No more than four participants are selected for each UnMuted intensive, maximizing personalized instruction while still allowing for the type of growth and camaraderie that can only be experienced when other participants are on the journey with you.
LOCATION – Held at The Lodge at Hidden Falls, an elegantly rustic log cabin lodge situated on 53 acres of forest with a pond and waterfalls in New York’s Catskills. The Lodge includes two open lofts for participants (each with two full size beds) and guided opportunities to enjoy the surrounding woods and be introduced to archery between training sessions. Weather permitting, training is held outdoors, overlooking one of the larger waterfalls, where you can take in the mountain air and hear the sound of the rushing water.
Meals are lovingly curated to honor the unique dietary needs of that intensive’s participants, and also serve as “Table Talk” sessions together, to make the most of your learning and practice, maximizing the integration of the training into your mind and body. Journaling is encouraged, and it is common for participants to bring their journals to the table during meals. Here is more information about your meals.
“If you’ve ever thought you could use some type of support with your communication & this retreat piqued your interest…do not hesitate to take the leap of faith in yourself at the Lodge at Hidden Falls!” (Aimee, 2025 participant) I am so pleased and gratified that participants are experiencing such a wide variety of benefits from this retreat. Here are more testimonials from past participants.
I am investigating the possibility of partial scholarship funds to cover a portion of the cost in the event that someone would be an excellent fit for the workshop and would love to attend, but cannot cover the full expense. If you are very interested but concerned about the cost, please still reach out for an interview and we can discuss this at that time.
WHEN CAN I PARTICIPATE? –This is offered monthly as a Catskills immersive, and the dates are listed on the registration page. However, I can also lead it for your small group or organization, either as at the Lodge in the Catskills, or on location where you are. If this is something you would like to consider presenting with your group, or you would like to be in touch about registering for one of the sessions, please reach out to me at elizabethvoice at gmail dot com and I will be happy to discuss that with you.
